Factor graphs as a Lingua Franca in Robotics

FRANK DELLAERT

Technical Project Lead, Facebook

Abstract

Probabilistic graphical models in general, and factor graphs in particular, provide a convenient computational language to pose a vast array of information fusion problems in Robotics. In this talk I will give examples how factor graphs were successfully used in underwater robotics, autonomous driving, long-term navigation, and consumer drones. After 10 years of research, the impact of factor graphs as a representation has been growing, such that it is now poised to become a lingua franca among robotics researchers.
